Willkommen in der Multimedia Community

As u might know, my time in the MAGIX Office in Toronto Canada is over; today is my first day back in the Berlin headquarter. The past weekend gave me the time to think about what I experienced and discoverd in one of the most adorbale city in the world. Here are 10 bulltetpoints which give you an overview of what you can expect when you visit  Canada's largest city, Toronto. 



1. Toronto is diverse! The United Nations call Toronto the most divers city in the world (49.9% of the population of Toronto is foreign-born; making it more diverse than Miami, Los Angeles or New York City).



2. Toronto is really multicultural! Toronto is a culture of cultures, a place of infinite opportunities where everybody is appreciated for how they stand out, not for how they fit in. Torontonians celebrate humanity.



3. Torontonians are peaceful and polite - Especially as a son of Berlin, I really appreaciate the quiet and peaceful atmosphere in Toronto. You can drive the subway or streetcar or walk through the streets late at nite without any unpleasant feeling. (Toronto is one of the safest cities in the world and the safest of North America). Moreover, Torontonians are famously and invariably polite.



4. Toronto loves food - Regardless which kind of food you like, you can get it in Toronto. Moreover, the food is affortable and tasty! (Just as an example: I ate really good korean, japanese, italian, chinese, thai, arabic and turkish food)



5. Toronto is worlds gay capital - Toronto is one of the few cities that has two gay villages. Furthermore, 5493 same-sex couples married there since 2003 which shows once again the openmindness of Torontonians.



6. Toronto reads ! The worlds busiest public libararies in the world are located in Toronto (30 mio items were loan out in the 99 braches last year) In addition to, the Robarts Libary of the University of Toronto is the third largest university research libary in the world



7. Toronto is green! When you watch from one of the top floors of the Toronto skyscrapers you will recognized that Toronto looks more or less like a big forest. 



8. Toronto has beaches - Toronto is located at one of the great lakes, the Lake Ontario. Therefore, you can find at the Harbour Front beaches which are frequently used during the summer. Other people,  spend 6$ to take the ferry to go on the Toronto Islands which offer a beautiful view at the Toronto Skyline, a huge place for picknicking and BBQing and a famous "cloathing-optional" beach.



9. Toronto has 4 real seasons - A snowy and extreme cold winter (time to go iceskating; its free in Toronto), a colourful and famous fall (indian summer) a miracolous and bloomy spring ( I loved the spring, as Toronto totally renews itself) and an extraordinary hot and sweaty summer (the humidity is extreme caused by the Lake Ontario)



10. Toronto is close to wilderness and nature -  Just a 2 hours drive up north and you can experience true and beautful wilderness of canada by hiking for example in Algoquning Park

Peter Ustinov said once: “Toronto is like New York, except run by the Swiss” but I think this quote is a bit inadequat and outdated. Like the author of the  "this,that,noother" blog said: "Toronto is like New York, run  by the Torontonians" . More infos about Toronto you can find here

Angelehnt an den Claim einer bekannten Fast-Food-Kette (die nicht hält was sie zeigt), möchte in diesem Beitrag meiner Liebe zum Britischen Englisch Ausdruck verleihen. Diese alte Liebe wird aktuell besonders durch den Song Foundations von Kate Nash entflammt, der nochmals klar macht, dass dieser "Akzent" einfach viel schöner und stilvoller, als sein, im Vergleich, hässliche amerikanische Bruder, ist.

Da ich leider momentan keine anderen Tracks mit dieser schönen Sprache aus meinem Gedächtnis kramen kann, wollte ich Euch mal fragen, ob ihr nicht ein paar Tipps für mich parat habt. 

In meiner Funktion als Teamleader des Magix Audio Content Departments und Leiter des Magix Tonstudios treffe ich täglich auf viele Musiker.Einige davon sind seit vielen Jahren Profis, andere dagegen fangen gerade erst an sich mit der Materie Musikproduktion zu befassen. Als neuer Author des MAGIX Blogs möchten mein Team und ich, euch gerne ein paar Tipps und Tricks geben,wie wir die ein oder andere Aufgabenstellung im Studio bewerkstelligen oder Euch ein paar Hilfestellungen geben, wie die „alten Hasen“ arbeiten. Unter dem Autorennamen „Audiodepartment“ findet Ihr also in Zukunft immer interessante Artikel zum Thema Studio und Musikproduktion.

In der letzten Zeit werde ich immer wieder gefragt, wie man druckvolleund harte Gitarrentracks aufnimmt - und welche Geräte man dafür benötigt.

Ganz häufig bekomme ich dann zu hören:"Ich habe dieses oder jenes Equipment und damit funktioniert es nicht - was soll ich mir kaufen"

Natürlich ist es toll die Gitarre - z.B. ESP (Rammstein, Soulfly, System of a Dawn oder Metallica benutzen die, um nur einige zu nennen), über einen fetten Marshall Amp abzunehmen. Aber ohne das nötige Know How klingt die Aufnahme hinterher kein bisschen fetter, als wenn man eine Aldi Gitarre und einen Aldi Amp benutzt hätte.

Über den Aufnahme Raum, die passenden Mikrofone, die analoge Konsole und die Studer 2 Zoll Maschine fange ich lieber gar nicht erst an zu sprechen. Ein paar Tipps und Tricks und die richtige Technik beim Bearbeiten bringen einen oft viel weit als ein sündhaft teurer Gerätepark.

Sehr häufig habe ich beispielsweise erlebt, dass unerfahrene- oder Hobby Musiker glaube je mehr Verzerrung sie reindrehen, desto fetter wird die Gitarrenspur im Mix. Das ist leider falsch, denn anstatt fetter wird der Track nur verwaschener, matschiger und undurchsichtiger. Der Druck und die Transparenz gehen verloren.

Hier gilt wirklich - weniger ist mehr.

Der Druck und die Härte kommen tatsächlich nicht über eine exzessive Verzerrung oder übe auf wundersame Art modifizierte Amps zustande. Viel wichtiger ist ein sauberes Einspielen oder eine genaue Nachbearbeitung der Elemente Drums, Bass und Gitarre.Auf den Punkt gespielt muss es sein, damit der Druck entsteht.

Wer nicht so perfekt und timinggenau einspielen kann, der muss eben hinterher in der Nachbearbeitung ran, die Gitarren sauber zerschneiden und neu auf die Drums anlegen. Je genauer und sorgfältiger man das macht, desto besser klingt am Ende auch die Gitarrenspur.

Damit die Gitarren dann auch noch richtig breit und nach "Wall of Sound" klingen ist es wichtig, sie zu doppeln. Dazu muss man die gesamte Gitarrenspur ein zweites Mal einspielen. (Achtung: die Spur einfach zu kopieren funktioniert leider nicht)

Mit dem richtigen LR Panning der beiden Spuren und ein wenig Übung bekommt man dann auch mit einfachem Equipment erstaunliche Resultate hin.

Und wer dann doch mal ein paar Euro investieren möchte, dem empfehle ich den Guitar Rig von Native Instruments. Damit bekommt man sehr schnell tolle Ergebnisse und das Plug In lässt sich ganz einfach in alle gängigen Sequencerprogramme wie Samplitude, MusicStudio, Music Maker, Cubase, Logic und anderen Hosts einbinden.

Hier noch ein paar Tipps:

 

• - härtere Plektren sorgen für einen aggressiveren Anschlag


• - kleine bis mittlere Verzerrgrade sorgen für bessere Transparenz,


• - Präzision im Spiel und eine sorgfältige Nachbearbeitung sorgen für den Druck


• - gedoppelte Aufnahmen sorgen für die Breite im Mix.

Probiert`s doch einfach mal aus bevor Ihr viel Geld für teures Equipment ausgebt. Und wenn Ihr dann mit Euren Möglichkeiten fette Gitarrenspuren gemacht habt, dann leistet Euch auch mal was schönes - zum Beispiel eine neue Gitarre
