MAGIX in freier Wildbahn

As u might know, my time in the MAGIX Office in Toronto Canada is over; today is my first day back in the Berlin headquarter. The past weekend gave me the time to think about what I experienced and discoverd in one of the most adorbale city in the world. Here are 10 bulltetpoints which give you an overview of what you can expect when you visit  Canada's largest city, Toronto. 



1. Toronto is diverse! The United Nations call Toronto the most divers city in the world (49.9% of the population of Toronto is foreign-born; making it more diverse than Miami, Los Angeles or New York City).



2. Toronto is really multicultural! Toronto is a culture of cultures, a place of infinite opportunities where everybody is appreciated for how they stand out, not for how they fit in. Torontonians celebrate humanity.



3. Torontonians are peaceful and polite - Especially as a son of Berlin, I really appreaciate the quiet and peaceful atmosphere in Toronto. You can drive the subway or streetcar or walk through the streets late at nite without any unpleasant feeling. (Toronto is one of the safest cities in the world and the safest of North America). Moreover, Torontonians are famously and invariably polite.



4. Toronto loves food - Regardless which kind of food you like, you can get it in Toronto. Moreover, the food is affortable and tasty! (Just as an example: I ate really good korean, japanese, italian, chinese, thai, arabic and turkish food)



5. Toronto is worlds gay capital - Toronto is one of the few cities that has two gay villages. Furthermore, 5493 same-sex couples married there since 2003 which shows once again the openmindness of Torontonians.



6. Toronto reads ! The worlds busiest public libararies in the world are located in Toronto (30 mio items were loan out in the 99 braches last year) In addition to, the Robarts Libary of the University of Toronto is the third largest university research libary in the world



7. Toronto is green! When you watch from one of the top floors of the Toronto skyscrapers you will recognized that Toronto looks more or less like a big forest. 



8. Toronto has beaches - Toronto is located at one of the great lakes, the Lake Ontario. Therefore, you can find at the Harbour Front beaches which are frequently used during the summer. Other people,  spend 6$ to take the ferry to go on the Toronto Islands which offer a beautiful view at the Toronto Skyline, a huge place for picknicking and BBQing and a famous "cloathing-optional" beach.



9. Toronto has 4 real seasons - A snowy and extreme cold winter (time to go iceskating; its free in Toronto), a colourful and famous fall (indian summer) a miracolous and bloomy spring ( I loved the spring, as Toronto totally renews itself) and an extraordinary hot and sweaty summer (the humidity is extreme caused by the Lake Ontario)



10. Toronto is close to wilderness and nature -  Just a 2 hours drive up north and you can experience true and beautful wilderness of canada by hiking for example in Algoquning Park

Peter Ustinov said once: “Toronto is like New York, except run by the Swiss” but I think this quote is a bit inadequat and outdated. Like the author of the  "this,that,noother" blog said: "Toronto is like New York, run  by the Torontonians" . More infos about Toronto you can find here

I'm not a professional photographer and im not using one of these new and affortable mirror reflex cameras, either. Nonetheless, I think that these four pictures i took during my stay in north america are pretty useful as desktop wallpapers. I shot them with my best friend called "Panasonic LUMIX DMC-LS3" which is in my opinion one of the best photocamera you can get for about 100€, regarding to its price-value-ratio. - Click on the pictures to enlarge

I dont really know why advertisers are strunggling everday to find the right way to influence their "target group". They overexert their brains to find new and cooler forms of advertising and finally fail because the "message" wasnt clear enough...!?!

Wake up! It can be so easy....

It happend! The famous Daily Link Goose gave birth!!!! Yesterday at approximatly 3PM, seven small biddies saw the light the first time - A beautfiful natural event! 











Hopefully The Daily Goose doesnt change her place until her offspring can fly, so we can have many new "The Daily Link Goose" articles...

When you think about Canada you might start to visualize forests, lakes and wild animals (you might... ) and when I am asking you: "what do you think how does the building looks like in which the MAGIX office in Toronto-Canada is located?", you might think about a skyscraper or another tall building with big windows.

Unfortunately, both images are misguided! The MAGIX Office of North America is located in Markam - Ontario (GTA Toronto) close to a six lane broaded street, in a Business Centre; thus, not that beautfiul or exciting as you might  have guessed

Nevertheless, there is something which reminds me everyday that I am in Canada and which makes me happy. It is "Link", the pet of the MAGIX office in North Amercica. "Link" is a female goose which is living very near to our office - but guess where !?!. ..At the parkinglot





And since I am so in love with "Link" and because today is the 1.May, I'm going to start a new 1 month long serie in this Blog which called "The Daily Link Goose"! 

Sounds weird? It is weird! Every weekday I will take a picture of "Link" at exactly 10am from exactly the same position In addition to this pic, i will publish my favourite web-links or tweets of the day. Together, link+goose, we have "The daily Link goose" ( you propably see the conenction with the term "link juice" :) 

I am back, finally !!! The problems with the VPN Connection are an issue of the past. From now on, you will read more articles from me, again. [Caution: There is still a massive space for improvement of my english wirting skillz, so please be forgiving. ]....

Prostate Cancer is more or less the masculin counterpart to Breast Cancer, thus the money gathering activities of non-profit organisations which are dealing with these exigent diseases are pretty much the same. Both organisations sell their special coloured ribbon and both of them arrange broad range of activities. For instance, the Harry Rosen - Fight Prostante Cancer Spring Off Run - was organized to collect charity money from all patricipators - the attendance fee was 50 CAD$. 

Now guess which totally insane guy was paying this money to be part of this incredible stormy, mild rainy but extremly cold 5k run? Yes, it was me! 



The 5k hilly track was situated in the beautiful High Park in the West of Toronto (the bigges park of Toronto btw). And like i already mentioned, the weather was awful ! Probably the worst weather to run a 5k without any former training. Anyways, i here are some 

impressions...









Btw. my Time was under 25min! (24:53) Which is pretty good (i think) for an completly untrained runner like me (Check times here).

Der zweite Teil meines kurzen UK-Reiseberichts soll von den Ansehnlichkeiten Englands handeln. Obwohl das Wetter während meiner Pressetour letzte Woche nur als „typisch Britisch“ bezeichnet werden kann (eine Verniedlichung für viel, viel Regen), sind die grünen saftigen Hügel unter grauem Himmel wohl das Sinnbild für die Landschaft Englands. Genau diese Landschaft konnte ich auf meinem Weg von London nach Bath bewundern. In Bath befindet sich ein großer Verlag mit einigen für uns wichtige Publikationen, weswegen es mich eigentlich auf jeder UK Pressetour auch hierhin verschlägt. Und bei jedem Besuch denke ich: Hier würde ich gerne mal etwas länger bleiben als nur ein paar Stunden! 

   

Mitten durch die von Römern gegründete Stadt fließt der Fluss „Avon“. Die kleinen Häuser und die Tatsache, dass Bath am Ende der Hügelkette „Cotswolds“ liegt, die in England für ihre landschaftliche Schönheit bekannt ist, machen es immer einfach, die einstündige Zugfahrt von London Richtung Westen auf sich zu nehmen. Zu den bekanntesten Kindern der Stadt gehört die englische Schriftstellerin Jane Austen, die vor allem durch neuere Verfilmungen ihrer Werke wie „Stolz und Vorurteil“ auch einem jüngeren Publikum wieder bekannt ist. Die „Jane Austen Society“ ist natürlich dementsprechend in Bath angesiedelt.



Nach sehr vielen Fahrten durch die nasse und saftige Landschaft Englands war dann am Freitag wieder London angesagt. Ich muss sagen: Wir hier in Berlin haben schon ein echt tolles Büro, wo einige Kollegen den Blick auf Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt wie Friedrichstraße oder Checkpoint Charlie direkt vom Arbeitsplatz genießen können. Aber den Ausblick über London, den ich am Freitag aus dem 10. Stock des englischen Verlags „IPC Media“ genießen konnte, war schon ziemlich einmalig. Gleichzeitig muss ich aber zugeben, dass es mir wahrscheinlich schwer fallen würde, mich im Alltag auf so profane Dinge wie meinen Monitor zu konzentrieren, wenn mir die Schönheit einer Großstadt so zu Füßen liegt ... aber so hat halt alles irgendwie seine zwei Seiten: Pressetouren sind einerseits anstrengend, andererseits verschlägt es einen in Gegenden bzw. man bekommt Ausblicke, die man so sonst nicht erhält

Eine Sache, die ich definitiv über mich sagen kann, ist, dass ich es eigentlich nicht mag, Texte zu schreiben, in denen ich mich in solch einer Form vorstellen soll. Natürlich kommt in unserem Blog jetzt jeder mal ran und deswegen auch diese Zeilen, aber mich erinnert so ein Text immer an die Schulzeit, in der Lehrer ihre Schüler kreativ quälten mit Aufgaben wie: Schreib mal einen Aufsatz mit dem Titel „Mein schönstes Ferienerlebnis“ oder „Wie ich die Weihnachtsferien verbracht habe“. Damals fragte ich mich vergeblich, warum studierte Menschen den ihnen angetrauten Schutzbefohlenen solch sinnleere Aufgaben stellten ...



Wenn ich dann also schon bei der Schule bin, kann ich zur Beschreibung meiner Person angeben, dass es eine dänische Schule in Flensburg war, die bis Anfang der 90er vergeblich versuchte, mir tolle Ferienerlebnisse in Form von Aufsätzen zu entlocken. Ich bin nämlich Mitglied der dänischen Minderheit im Norden Deutschlands, die eigentlich immer nur zur Landtagswahl in Schleswig Holstein einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit ins Gedächtnis gerufen wird (in Form des SSW, der sogenannte „Südschleswigscher Wählerverband“, die politische Vertretung der Minderheit).

Meinen Kenntnissen der nordischen Sprachen war es dann schlussendlich auch zu verdanken, dass ich in der PR-Abteilung von MAGIX landete. Da ich zuvor Jahre mit dem Erlernen von Arabisch, Türkisch und schlussendlich auch mit dem Abschluss in Islamwissenschaft verbrachte, könnte manch einer denken: Dies ist jetzt aber nicht die stringenteste Karriereplanung ... Während meines Studiums konnte ich aber bereits einige Erfahrungen als Journalist sowie im Bereich Public Relations sammeln und da es mir ein großer Wunsch war, auch nach dem Studium weiterhin in Berlin zu bleiben, passte die Aufgabe Öffentlichkeitsarbeit für MAGIX in Skandinavien ganz wunderbar.

Die Schwerpunkte meiner Tätigkeit haben sich zwar in den vier Jahren, in denen ich jetzt bei MAGIX bin, immer wieder verändert – doch gehörte die PR im Norden immer dazu. Derzeit verbringe ich vor allem viel Zeit damit, Pressemitteilungen für unsere Internet-Aktivitäten zu schreiben und zu optimieren. Wenn ich nicht im Büro in der Friedrichstraße bin, nutze ich die Unterhaltungsangebote der Hauptstadt. Ansonsten beschäftige ich mich mit deutschem und englischem Fußball. Sollten hier ausnahmsweise spielfrei sein, verbringe ich gerne Zeit in meiner Küche beim Versuch, kreativ in den Töpfen herumzurühren.

Wie ihr vielleicht schon mitbekommen habt, vertreiben wir unsere Produkte nicht nur in „Good old Germany“, sondern auch in aller Welt. Wie auch im wunderschönen warmen Portugal. Unsere spanische PR-Frau Laure hat mit einem portugiesischen Radiosender namens „Radio dos Miudos Fantasticos“ ein Gewinnspiel mit Kindern durchgeführt, bei dem die Kleinen den MAGIX Music Maker 15 gewinnen konnten. Drei Wonneproppen haben gewonnen.
